Curcumin is fat-soluble and poorly absorbed on its own. Two things fix that: a fat to carry it, and piperine from black pepper to slow its breakdown. Turmeric milk was solving this problem centuries before anyone wrote a paper about it.
We use Lakadong from the Jaintia Hills, which tests at 7–9% curcumin against the 2–3% of commodity turmeric, and bloom it gently in ghee rather than dusting it in cold.
